I honestly don't know what you'd call it. But, I've listened to this one several times since the name caught my eye, and I really like it no matter what label you hang on it. From what I gather from the band's website, the lead singer (and I think guitar player) is from Senegal jamming with some of Missisippi's finest. The most well known embassador for this music was (died last year or the year before) Mr Ali Farka Toure from Mali. He claimed the music to be originating from his land, and the transformation was to play it on the guitar. He recorded many sessions, including one or two LPs with Mr Ry Cooder (one at least called "talking Timbuktu").
